Guardiola warned Haaland move ‘might disrupt Man City’ and benefit Liverpool

Pep Guardiola has been warned his move to sign Erling Haaland could 'disrupt' his Manchester City side, gifting an advantage to Liverpool.

City and Liverpool have been battling for the Premier League title this season, something they are expected to do next term. While this year has been a close fight, Guardiola is hoping to see his City side pull away next year by signing Haaland.

The Norwegian is one of the most sought-after players in the world after scoring 82 goals in just two years at Borussia Dortmund. Haaland is viewed by many as one of the deadliest strikers in Europe, with City now in pole position to sign him.

Guardiola has gone all out to secure the services of the 21-year-old, with City ready to pay him £500,000 per week in wages. But former Reds star Rickie Lambert has warned the Spaniard that signing Haaland could actually have a negative impact on City, at least at the start of next season.

"I think the way City play, I'm not too sure a big centre-forward will be good for them. It might take them a while to get used to a new way of playing with them. I think it might disrupt them a little bit," he told talkSPORT.

"If one of these teams gets ahead early doors next season, it's very hard these days for the other team to catch them. So, I think it could be a little advantage [for Liverpool]. In a year's time Man City are going to be unstoppable.

"Because he will be settled in and it's just going to be unfair. It's unfair that they're bringing in these players every year, unbelievable players. But that Klopp is able to keep with them, not only able to keep with them but get the better of them many times is unbelievable."

City's battle for this season's title is set to go down to the wire, with Liverpool having leapfrogged them on Tuesday by hammering Manchester United. Guardiola's men can retake top spot on Wednesday though when they host Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.
