Gary Neville names all-time Man Utd overseas XI with Bruno Fernandes in midfield
Gary Neville has named his all-time Manchester United XI of overseas players – and caused quite a stir with his midfield choices.
Neville is widely regarded as one of the finest players to come through United's famed academy, with the defender one of the members of the iconic Class of 92.
The right-back went on to win eight Premier League crowns and two Champions League triumphs during Sir Alex Ferguson's glittering spell before hanging up his boots in 2011.
The 45-year-old, who is now a well-respected pundit with Sky Sports, has undoubtedly seen his fair share of superstars shine for the Red Devils over the years.
And when asked on Twitter about his best XI of overseas players, the Old Trafford hero didn't shy away.
Neville was not allowed to include any players from England, Wales, Scotland, Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland.
He opted for an unusual 4-2-2-2 formation, with Peter Schmeichel unsurprisingly handed the No.1 jersey, though Edwin van der Saar was perhaps unfortunate to miss out.
The defence raises a few eyebrows, though, with Rafael getting the nod ahead of Antonio Valencia.
There can be no arguments over the central defence partnership of Jaap Stam and Nemanja Vidic, while Patrice Evra occupies the left-back spot.
It's the midfield which causes the biggest debate, Bruno Fernandes and Juan Sebastian Veron handed the reins in the middle of the park.
It must be said, though, that there wasn't a huge pool of talent to choose from as the majority of stars to shine for Old Trafford, including Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, were ineligible.
Neville opted for two former teammates on the wings, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez playing just behind the forwards.
And, speaking of strikers, Eric Cantona and Ruud van Nistelrooy lead the line in what is a mouthwatering attack.
