Full details of Grealish and Southgate’s conversation during Villa vs Man City

Jack Grealish and Gareth Southgate purred about Manchester City's stunning passing football in a half-time chat.

Aston Villa's injured skipper Grealish was in the stands again for their 2-1 Premier League defeat to City.

He sat near England boss Southgate who was at Villa Park to take in the game.

Grealish brought Southgate up to speed on the latest on his shin injury which is healing well after the star was ordered to rest further when his comeback was pushed back earlier this month.

But the pair also discussed the dazzling first half performance of Pep Guardiola's men.

The league leaders recovered from conceding in 20 seconds to lead at half-time after goals by man of the match Phil Foden and Rodri.

The visitors dominated possession with some beautiful, crisp football moving the ball around quickly.

It really impressed both Grealish and Southgate who discussed the benefit of players seeing various different options for passes in seconds.

They also discussed Grealish's injury after the star was prescribed further rest and has now missed eight successive games.

But Grealish, 25, who has five caps, is due back before the end of the season and is still expected to go the Euros.

The Aston Villa captain was originally scheduled to return in the win over Fulham on April 4.

But he pulled out of training the day before after experiencing discomfort in his shin.

There is no pressure at Villa to rush Grealish, who has six goals and 10 assists in the Premier League, back until he is fully fit.

Dean Smith's side are 11th and set for a solid season after only just staying up on the final day last term.

Pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville also agreed on Sky's Monday Night Football recently that Grealish should go to the Euros despite his recent injury.

Carragher said: “Grealish has to go. He is a special talent.”

Neville added: “I would definitely take him.”

Manchester City and Manchester United are both keen on Grealish forcing Villa to value him at over £100million after he penned a new deal last year until 2025.
