Frankie De Jong named in Barca’s pre-season squad despite Man Utd transfer link

Frenkie de Jong has been named in Barcelona's squad for their pre-season tour despite him being linked with a move to Manchester United.

The two clubs have reportedly agreed a fee for the Dutch midfielder, but De Jong is yet to finalise personal terms with the Red Devils and remains keen to stay in Spain. Barca would prefer to sell De Jong before the end of the summer as they look to lower their wage bill and ease the financial strain on the club.

Despite that, De Jong has been included in the club's 28-man squad for their trip to the USA.

Barca are set to play four matches during their two-week stay in the USA, with friendlies scheduled against Inter Miami, Real Madrid, Juventus and New York Red Bulls.

Upon returning to Europe, Barcelona will also welcome Mexican side UNAM to the Nou Camp before the start of their league campaign.

De Jong is joined in the touring party by new signings Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha, who have all joined the Spanish giants this summer.

In addition to his inclusion in the tour squad, De Jong's current situation has not changed, according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports the player still has no plans to leave Barcelona.

He has yet to agree personal terms with United despite the two clubs agreeing a £64million fee with a further £8.5million in add-ons for the 25-year-old.

De Jong is also understood to have sent a message to his fellow Barca players, with SPORT reporting that he told his team-mates "it's impossible that I leave Barcelona".

New United boss Erik ten Hag has been keen to reunite with De Jong after the pair previously enjoyed success during their time together at Ajax.

Ten Hag and De Jong won a league and cup double together in the 2018/19 season as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League that same season.

Overall, De Jong made 59 appearances under Ten Hag before his £77.4million move to Barcelona in the summer of 2019.
