Fans spot Cristiano Ronaldo paying tribute to Georgina Rodriguez before tragedy

Manchester United fans have spotted that Cristiano Ronaldo paid tribute to Georgina Rodriguez against Norwich City before the tragic death of their son.

Ronaldo scored all three United goals as they beat Premier League strugglers Norwich at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon in a crucial win in the race for a top-four finish. However, he will miss Tuesday's trip to face Liverpool after announcing that his newborn baby son tragically passed away at birth.

Now fans believe they have spotted a tribute Ronaldo paid to his partner Rodriguez after scoring a hat-trick against the Canaries just two days earlier.

Ronaldo could be seen with the match ball placed up his shirt as he left the field at full-time, an apparent nod to his then pregnant girlfriend.

The couple had announced they were expecting twins back in October, before announcing the birth of a baby daughter and the passing of a twin son on Monday.

In an emotional joint statement, Ronaldo and Rodriguez announced: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

"We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."

United have since confirmed in a statement that the 37-year-old will not feature against Liverpool on Tuesday night, as he and Rodriguez mourn the tragic loss of their son.

The club made the announcement in an official statement which reads: "Family is more important than everything + Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time.

"As such, we confirm he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield and we underline the family's request for privacy."

United face Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night with the chance to pull level on points with fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur after their win against Norwich at the weekend.
