Fans rip into Italy’s new shirt for looking like a Wycombe Wanderers jersey

Football fans have ruthlessly mocked Italy's new shirt for looking like a rip-off of a Wycombe Wanderers jersey.

The Azzurri released an image of their new two-toned blue number online ahead of their upcoming matches against Argentina, Germany, Hungary and England. But fans roundly mocked the kit for its resemblance to the shirt of League One side Wycombe.

Euro 2020 winner and Chelsea star Jorginho posed in the kit, which has not gone down well with supporters online. One wrote: "Wycombe did it better." While someone else said: "Once great nation reduced to copying Wycombe's shirt. Maneskin didn't die for this."

"Wycombe Wanderers on commission?," asked someone else. Others ripped into Italy for their failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, including one who wrote: "Haha so original these comments forgot Italy weren’t in the world cup!!!!”

Another user joked: "Will look good at the World Cup….. oh wait…" Someone else quipped: "Even Italians want to be Wycombe. In a similar vain, one wrote: "The designers realised that the shirt wasn't going to the World Cup, they made very little effort."

Italy won the Euros last summer and it seemed they had failed in their pursuit of claiming a place in the World Cup. But they could yet be put back in the competition following FIFA’s investigation into Ecuador allegedly altering a player’s paperwork. If found to be true, Italy would be first in line for re-admission.

Their manager Roberto Mancini said: "Right now, we’re not there, but if someone is expelled, there’s the ranking."

Meanwhile, Mancini believes Giorgio Chiellini, who has played for the last time for Juventus, will likely not play in Serie A again. Mancini said: "I don’t know what he will think about the future but it seems he wants to play another year abroad.

"Some may play their last game of the season (against Argentina) and go home because we have to make choices, but no one is Giorgio’s age. We have to start again, the supporters are still behind us despite what happened."
