Fans have lauded Raheem Sterling after the England star continued his excellent form at Euro 2020 with a wonderful pass for Harry Kane’s goal against Ukraine.

The Manchester City star cut in off the left and then played a crafty ball in behind the defence which the Three Lions captain latched on to to put Gareth Southgate’s men ahead in their quarter-final in Rome.

Opta highlighted that it was the sixth time Sterling has assisted Kane for England, the most one player has assisted another for the Three Lions in all competitions in the 21st century.

And supporters took to Twitter to express their joy at yet another goal involvement for Sterling at the tournament, having scored three goals this summer already.

One said: ‘Raheem Sterling what an incredible assist, he’s carrying England on his back this tournament,’ while another simply stated: ‘That pass by Sterling is crazy.’

Another meanwhile said he deserved more respect, adding: ‘What a pass from Sterling. 

‘We can shout all day for [Jack] Grealish, [Jadon] Sancho and others, but Raheem Sterling deserves more respect.’

Another user mirrored those thoughts that Sterling’s displays have gone under the radar, adding: ‘Yo someone needs to talk about this Sterling come back, that pass was f****** untouchable.’

Others called for Sterling to win an award for his performances this summer regardless of whether he earns a Euros winners medal.

One stated: ‘What a pass Sterling. Fair play he’s acc on course to win Euro 2021 POTT,’ while another added: ‘Give Sterling Player of the Tournament. I’ve seen enough.’

Sportsmail‘s Oliver Holt also believes Sterling has been Southgate’s best player at the Euros, tweeting: ‘That goal was more evidence that Sterling is England’s best player at this tournament. 

‘Brilliant run and clever pass for Kane. Doesn’t get a lot of credit for vision but that pass was pure quality.’

Sterling scored winners against Croatia and the Czech Republic as well as the first in the 2-0 win against Germany in the round of 16 prior to his assist in Rome. 

Alan Shearer lauded Sterling’s pass at half-time, stating: ‘No surprise it was for that man. 

‘We know how it works as a centre forward you get one and then you go into the game and you’re a different player. He looks sharp. What a pass that is from Sterling. 

‘Awful defending from Kryvtsov, how he lets Kane run in behind him. It’s a fantastic pass, the weight of pass is superb, Harry Kane superb, he’s too fast for the defence. ‘Just the start England needed.

Frank Lampard added: ‘It was a fantastic pass, what I love about Kane is he realises he has to stretch, he knows what he has to do. It’s almost a toe poke. Great start, great goal.

Rio Ferdinand meanwhile said: ‘Once you get one, they seem to come in drones. Sterling’s role in understated, he commits the space and lets others get involved.’
