Euro 2020 trophy smashes to floor on live TV as presenter ducks for cover

The trophy for Euro 2020 was seen smashing to the floor live on Romanian TV as a presenter was forced to duck for cover.

The continental tournament is less than a month-and-a-half away, having been pushed back a year due to Covid-19.

And it has seen the famous Henri Delaunay Trophy, fought for since the first tournament in 1960, do the media rounds.

But footage has emerged of the cup taking an awkward tumble at the Arena Nationala, Bucharest.

In the clip, a presenter for national broadcaster Realitatea Plus is discussing the tournament with the trophy behind her to the left.

There is also a stand behind the host featuring sponsors, which is made of a thin material and attached to a metal structure.

But the wind is blowing around the stadium at the Romanian capital, straight into the back of the advertising board.

And it ends up being too much, sending the adverts falling – and also landing on the stand which has the trophy on it.

The presenter is left running to avoid a bump on the head as the trophy falls with a huge clatter.

The first game of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament takes place on June 11 as Turkey take on Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

And the first game in Bucharest happens two days later, with Austria facing North Macedonia in the first game of Group C.

Two more fixtures from that group will be played out at the same venue, with North Macedonia then taking on Ukraine on June 17 before the eastern European side face Austria on 21/06.

The ground will then be used one more time on June 28 in the round-of-16, which will see the winner of Group F face third place from Group A, B or C depending on their performances.
