Erling Haaland’s statement to Phil Foden as details of on-pitch chat emerge

The details of Erling Haaland and Phil Foden's shrouded conversation after Manchester City faced off with Borussia Dortmund have emerged.

The duo were seen embracing at the full-time whistle in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final earlier this month, just as they had done during the first leg.

Although Haaland is the more prolific of the pair, it was Foden who lit up the tie with a goal in either meeting to steer City to a 4-2 aggregate triumph.

The sight of the two exhilarating youngsters having a chat led many to believe Foden was acting as agent to convince Haaland to move to the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola's side are the bookmakers' favourite to sign the in-demand Dortmund striker this summer, and Foden may be hoping he lines up with the Norwegian next season.

But is is understood the pair were not talking about transfers on the Westfalenstadion turf.

Instead, Haaland told his rival, "I'm the one who was supposed to score the goals," according to the Daily Telegraph .

At the time of the exchange, Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand were among those who suspected Haaland and Foden had been discussing transfers.

Lineker told BT Sport : "I wonder what's been said there… 'see you next season?'"

"See you next year, see you next year," replied Ferdinand.

Haaland has a £68million release clause which comes into force in June 2022, and in the meantime Dortmund reportedly value their star man at £150million.

The former RB Salzburg forward has scored 34 goals in 36 games this season, including 10 in the Champions League prior to Dortmund's exit.

Foden, meanwhile, has 14 goals in 43 appearances having played in a variety of midfield and attacking roles.
