Manchester United will reportedly face Aston Villa in Perth this winter, with new boss Erik ten Hag casting his eye over his squad during a clash at Optus Stadium.

United are set to play four games during their trip to Thailand and Australia in what will be their first overseas pre-season tour since 2019.

The Red Devils will play Liverpool in Bangkok on July 12 before heading down under to take on Melbourne Victory (July 15) and Crystal Palace (July 19) in a double header in Victoria.

The Manchester Evening News reports that United will head west after the Palace game to face Steven Gerrard’s Villa at Optus Stadium on July 23.

Palace are also expected to take on Leeds United in Western Australia the day before United take on the Villans.

The Red Devils have not embarked on an overseas tour since the start of the Covid pandemic and there had been fears among chiefs about the feasibility of travelling to Australia amid vaccination regulations.

The vast majority of the squad are understood to be vaccinated and United are confident that they will not encounter the same difficulties experienced by Novak Djokovic, who was deported on the eve of the Australian Open in January.

United are not the only star-studded club to head Down Under this winter, with fellow soccer giants Barcelona to visit for the first time in their history.

The LaLiga club have agreed to take on an A-League All Stars side at Accor Stadium in Sydney on May 25 after the 2021-22 season is wrapped up.

By the time United touch down in Australia, they may have a glut of new recruits ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. The Red Devils have been linked with the likes of Ruben Neves, Sebastian Haller, Harry Kane and Declan Rice.
