England Women’s star baked pizzas at Domino’s before winning Champions League

England star Lucy Bronze could be lifting the Women's Euros trophy later this month – a far cry from the pizza boxes she was handling a decade ago.

The full-back worked at Domino's during her days as a student at Leeds Metropolitan University, now Leeds Beckett, in order to raise funds for her degree. It was also valuable money for her trips to Merseyside, where she would train with Everton.

Although the job may be looked down on by some, Bronze told FourFourTwo in 2018: "I worked in Domino's while I was at uni and playing for Everton, but I actually loved it.

"We had a good bunch of people there, it was always a laugh and I always got free pizza at the end of the night. And I also worked in a five-a-side place pulling pints for the blokes who were playing. I loved that as well."

Bronze's work ethic saw her ditch dough balls for footballs full-time, going on to join Liverpool and then Manchester City. But it was with Lyon in France where her career really took off.

The former Best FIFA Women's Player won nine trophies in her three-year spell abroad, including three Champions Leagues. It was during that time that she was also honoured by her former employers.

The Headingly branch of Domino's painted their store sign bronze after her and England team-mates had reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup, which unfortunately was as far as the Lionesses got after defeat to the USA.

Ricky Kandola, then-operations director at Domino's, said: "We're all proud of everything Lucy has achieved and are delighted to be able to pay tribute to her ahead of the semi-final."

Having returned to City for two years, Bronze will be Barcelona-bound next season. But her focus is firmly on international duty for now with hosts England eyeing a first major tournament win.
