England will play their first knockout-stage match of Euro 2022 when they face Spain for a place in the semi-finals at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Lionesses managed to avoid conceding a single goal in the group stages and will be looking to live up to their billing as tournament favourites by getting the job done against their Spanish counterparts in their next outing.

Sarina Wiegman’s side breezed into the quarter-finals by winning all three of their group matches against Austria, Norway and Northern Ireland respectively. They have already scored 14 goals since the beginning of the tournament and will be desperate to fire another few past Spain in front of a capacity home crowd in Brighton later today.

England are likely to be tested by their last-eight opponents, though, with Spain having managed to beat Finland, Germany and Denmark on their own way to the knockout stages. They were held to a goalless draw by the Lionesses in the most recent meeting between the two sides at Carrow Road earlier this year and will be looking to go one better at the next time of asking when the action gets underway tonight.
