Edinson Cavani’s Man Utd decision shouldn’t impact Solskjaer’s transfer plan

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should still do all he can to sign Erling Haaland or Harry Kane this summer – despite Edinson Cavani’s U-turn.

Cavani has impressed in his debut season at Old Trafford, though it had been believed that he would leave in the summer.

Though reports now suggest the 34-year-old will stay and spend a second campaign in the Premier League.

But that should not stop Solskjaer searching for a new striker this summer with Haaland and Kane both linked to United.

A transfer battle is set to ensue over Borussia Dortmund star Haaland with Manchester City and Real Madrid also keen.

United may have more luck when it comes to luring Kane from Tottenham as the England ace looks to further his career.

Cavani bagged twice as United beat Roma 6-2 in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday night.

He has also netted eight Premier League goals and proven to be a focal point for the Red Devils’ attack.

Either Haaland or Kane would offer a similar role to Cavani, and allow Solskjaer to build for the future.

Even if Cavani does remain at Old Trafford next season, it seems unlikely that the former PSG star will extend into a third campaign.

And if Solskjaer doesn’t strike this summer, when the opportunity is there, to sign a new striker then he may seriously regret it.

For now it seems Solskjaer is still doing all he can to keep Cavani, saying after the clash with Roma: "Edinson was excellent. I've said before, he plays as a centre-forward should be playing, running the channels, being the focal points, creating chances for others, scoring goals.
