Daley Blind ‘convinces Marcus Rashford to stay at Man Utd’ for fresh start

Former Manchester United midfielder Daley Blind has reportedly convinced Marcus Rashford to stay at Old Trafford for a fresh start under new manager Erik ten Hag.

The England star, 24, cut a frustrated figure last campaign, suffering his worst goal return in a red shirt. Rashford completed 90 minutes on just three occasions during the course of the 2021/22 Premier League season, registering a measly four top-flight goals as United could only manage a sixth place finish with a goal difference of zero.

And despite reassurances from Ten Hag that he will be offered the chance to prove himself, the MBE hero has been tipped with a move away from his boyhood club. Arsenal, PSG and Newcastle United are all keeping tabs on the developing situation but it now appears Rashford is set to stay at United, following a chat with a former teammate.

According to Goal, Rashford has been in contact with ex-Man Utd defender and Ajax ace Blind and is now more upbeat regarding his prospects next season. Ten Hag has already helped turn the careers around of Sebastian Haller, Dusan Tadic and Davy Klassen.

Rashford is said to have been assured of Ten Hag's techniques with Blind confirming he is the type of manager to put an arm around the shoulder – which is music to the ears of the young forward.

Unfavoured by Jose Mourinho, the self-proclaimed 'special one' signed Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to take his place in the starting line-up and Rashford barely featured at all under Ralf Rangnick.

The Englishman undoubtedly played his best football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but was still left frustrated by a lack of one-to-one coaching from one of Old Trafford's all-time greats. However, Ten Hag's philosophy could suit him to the ground.

Rashford knows he needs to hit the ground running for a chance of making Gareth Southgate's England World Cup squad and has used the off-season to hire a personal trainer to make sure he is at peak physical condition for the start of the new campaign.

United face Brighton on the opening day of the season where Rashford and co will have the chance to avenge the 4-0 mauling they suffered on the south coast in May.
