West Ham’s Declan Rice is a key target for Frank Lampard in midfield but the same publication claim Chelsea’s transfer chiefs believe their energy could be better invested in trying to seal a deal for Bellingham instead.

Chelsea attempted to sign Rice in the summer but West Ham rebuffed their offers and are believes to be holding out for £70million.

Lampard is a huge fan of the 21-year-old and feels, with his attributes, that he would be the perfect addition to their squad.

The Chelsea board realise how much the manager admires Rice but there are figures around the club who feel he is too similar to N’Golo Kante and Bellingham may be a better target.

The club understand they’ll have to bide their time to sign him as the youngster only moved to Dortmund from Birmingham in the summer and are prepared to wait until 2022 to seal his signature

Before his move to Germany, Manchester United had held talks with the player and his parents but failed to convince him to join.

Chelsea were also an interested party and will keep close tabs on his development this season before deciding when to make their move.
