Bruno Fernandes’ smashing goal replicated by United Women star against Leicester

Bruno Fernandes' spectacular goal for Manchester United on Saturday was recreated a day later by Ella Toone of the club's women's team.

Fernandes had scored his fourth goal of the season with a dipping strike from nearly 30 yards out in United's 4-1 thrashing of Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

Toone then scored a strikingly similar goal from distance on Sunday for United's women's team as they won 3-1 away to newly promoted Leicester City in their second match of the season.

Both sides have made unbeaten starts to their new league seasons, with the men sitting top of the Premier League and the women third in the WSL.

Toone collected the ball 25 yards from goal and slightly to the right of the centre of the goal and after taking a touch to get the ball out of her feet, fired the ball into the top corner from distance.

The 22-year-old's first of the season opened the scoring at the King Power Stadium before Maria Thorisdottir and Martha Thomas added to United's tally after the break.

The 3-1 win follows up the club's opening day win away to Reading and leaves them third after two matches of the season, trailing top of the table Brighton on goal difference.

Who's goal was better, Bruno Fernandes or Ella Toone's? Let us know in the comments section below.

Toone seemed to have taken inspiration from Portuguese playmaker Fernandes, who raised the roof at Old Trafford on Saturday with United's third goal in their win over Newcastle.

After receiving the ball from Paul Pogba, Fernandes wrapped a dipping shot into the top left corner, out of reach of the helpless Freddie Woodman.

His goal came after Cristiano Ronaldo had scored either side of half-time on his United comeback and the scoring was completed in stoppage time thanks to substitute Jesse Lingard.

The goal of the season contender was Fernandes' fourth of the season and his first since his opening day treble in the 5-1 demolition of Leeds United.

The win on Saturday also lifted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to the top of the Premier League and they remain there after the weekend's remaining games, with 10 points from four matches.
