Bayern chief flirts with idea of signing Mohamed Salah after transfer admission

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admits it would be "an honour" to bring Mohamed Salah to the club – but conceded they have no imminent plans to make a swoop.

Salah signed for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side in 2017 with a tarnished reputation in the Premier League, after failing to make the grade with Chelsea.

But the Egyptian superstar has gone on to become a domestic, European and World champion, as well as finishing as the club's top scorer for three seasons running.

Indeed, those performances have alerted the attention of European powerhouses, with Barcelona and Real Madrid keeping tabs on his situation.

And Bayern are also long-term admirers, with the German giants' CEO comparing Salah to Barca star Lionel Messi.

“In my opinion, Salah is the Messi of Africa and of course he has the skills to play for the best teams in the world,” Rummenigge told ON Time Sports .

“What he [Salah] has achieved can be compared to what Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo did with Barcelona and Real Madrid.”

Asked whether Bayern are considering a swoop, he added: "At the moment we don’t plan on signing Salah, but certainly it would be an honour to have him."

Meanwhile last month, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claimed Salah’s contract situation will not cast a shadow on Anfield.

The 28-year-old Egyptian striker has just over two years left on his current deal.

Klopp said: “It is a normal thing in the world of football. Mo didn’t make a speech, It’s not that we go out and talk about things that we think are important. It’s pretty rare that happens.

“We get asked questions and we answer – that is the end of the story.

“But it always sounds like we started the conversation.

"In Mo’s case it is not like that. I don’t think it will distract this season.”
