Arsenal signing Gabriel Jesus spotted on Emirates pitch wearing no.9 shirt

Gabriel Jesus will wear the no.9 shirt for Arsenal after being spotted on the Emirates pitch with the iconic digit on his back.

The Gunners are close to announcing the signing of the Manchester City star in a £45million deal which will boost Mikel Arteta's forward options. The no.9 shirt was vacated by Alexandre Lacazette after he departed the club to join Lyon earlier this summer.

Although the acquisition of Jesus has not yet been confirmed by the north Londoners, leaked footage of the 25-year-old walking around the club's home stadium wearing a full kit would suggest that an announcement is not far away.

Jesus also wore the no.9 shirt for City, where he scored 95 goals and provided 46 assists in 236 appearances in all competitions.

The forward is set to become Arsenal's fourth signing of the summer transfer window following the acquisitions of Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Matt Turner.

He will add much-needed firepower to the squad after the double departure of Lacazatte earlier this month and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona during the January transfer window.

Gunners legend Alan Smith believes that Jesus has the desire and hunger to succeed in north London under Arteta, who previously worked with him at the Etihad.

He told Sky Sports: "Jesus is somebody who fits the profile, age-wise, and I think he is a player that has got something to prove now. He wants to kick on in his career, he wants to play regularly and as a striker that is so important.

"He has played down the right last season more often than he did through the middle. Obviously he was in and out of the team, he was a substitute so he wants to be first choice.

"I think it that desire and that hunger is what [Mikel] Arteta is after. Players that do want to prove themselves and aren't coasting.

"Jesus can turn into a very good central striker now that he has joined Arsenal. I think that will be the attraction, the fact that a lot of clubs were after him but he might not have played regularly."
