Arsenal’s hopes of landing Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this summer appear to have been boosted by the 23-year-old’s decision to reject a move to Liverpool, according to reports. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward has turned plenty of heads with his performances north of the border this season, earning links to a number of Premier League sides as a result.

The Gunners, Leicester City and Liverpool were all believed to be keen on securing his services, with Celtic reportedly willing to consider bids matching their £20million valuation of the player.

Arsenal are likely to be on the lookout for a new striker this summer with the immediate futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah far from certain.

The former will be out of contract at the end of next season, leaving the north London club with a dilemma over whether to cash in before the start of the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Nketiah has been tipped to seek pastures new with Arsenal reportedly willing to offload the England youth international along with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who is currently on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

Edouard has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s side since last summer and could provide a viable long-term option at the top of the pitch.

Additionally, Celtic’s failure to defend their Scottish Premiership title this season appears to have amplified the possibility of the Frenchman’s departure.

It seems as though Arsenal could be set to battle Leicester for his signature in the coming months, with Liverpool’s prospects of signing the forward dashed after he rejected a proposal to join the Merseyside club, according to Anfield Watch.

The report claims that the Reds have dropped out of the race after Edouard told Jurgen Klopp in a phone call that he is not interested in a move to last season’s Premier League champions.

It is said that he is not convinced that he would play on a regular basis, with consistent first-team football one of his top priorities.

Liverpool reportedly considered swapping out-of-favour attacker Divock Origi for the Celtic man, but the Belgian forward made it clear that he would not be willing to move to Scotland as part of the deal.

Edouard has scored 20 goals in all competitions this season, providing another six assists in the process.

He joined Celtic from PSG back in 2018 for a reported fee in the region of £9.2m.

Interim boss John Kennedy recently cast doubt over the striker’s Parkhead future by admitting that he could be set to leave the club as early as this summer.

“When you have talented players, there’s always interest,” Kennedy told reporters earlier this month.

“So I’ve no doubt there will be interest in Odsonne, as there was last season and all the time he’s been here, but ultimately the club will do the right thing for themselves.

“We want to keep him for as long as we can because of the talent he’s got.

“But there ultimately comes a point, whether contractually or the player’s motivation, when you have to sit down and address that and that will be done in the summer.”
