Arsenal fans think the glory days are back after Arteta names Odegaard captain

Arsenal fans are convinced the glory days are returning to the Emirates after Martin Odegaard was confirmed as the new Gunners captain.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of his captaincy by Mikel Arteta – shortly before the Gabonese international was sold to Barcelona. Alexandre Lacazette took up the mantle to the end of the season, when his contract expired in north London.

However, the Gunners have only just announced Aubameyang's official successor in the form of the Norwegian. Odegaard has already captained his nation since March 2021, and he has impressed during his spell at the Emirates.

One fan tweeted: "Happy with this, I think he’s intelligent, a good communicator, and a good representative of the club."

"Odegaard might not have been at the club for very long but he’s the obvious choice for captain. He’s very clearly the link between Arteta and the team during games," a second added. While a third questioned: "Odegaard leading us back to the glory days?"

"Fully back it. All things considered, he’s our best option," a fourth tweeted.
