Arsenal could sign ex-Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen in swap deal

Arsenal could be handed the chance to sign former Tottenham hero Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark midfielder has been vocally critical of his lack of importance under Antonio Conte after he forced a move away from north London during the last January transfer window.

The 28-year-old made his name as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League across a seven-year spell at Spurs, scoring 51 times and setting up a further 62 across 226 appearances.

It remains to be seen whether he would be willing to join his old rivals, but Inter are not short of ideas in their pursuit to force Eriksen out of the San Siro.

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, the Milan giants are considering offering Arsenal a swap deal for Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka.

In addition, they are also interested in Fred and Nemanja Matic of Manchester United as well as N’Golo Kante of Chelsea who Conte worked with during his time in London.

Eriksen has made only 11 Serie A starts since leaving England, scoring once and assisting twice across a total of 24 league appearances.

He said of his situation in October: "I don't want to sit the bench for the whole season, I hope this isn't the coach's or the club's intention.

"It is going to be a busy season, lot of games in program, I expect to play.

"It's never nice to sit the bench and one tends to be less patient as his experience grows.

"There are many expectations on me, people thought I'd do the difference in every game, but it didn't happen. That's why they are looking at me with different eyes.

"I've had highs and lows after the lockdown. I had a great start with Inter after I arrived and now I am living in a new situation."

To which his manager responded by saying: "All the choices I make are always and only for the good of Inter not for the good of the single player.

"Players must be functional to an idea and a project in order to be competitive at national and international level.

"The modern footballer must be fast, strong, resistant. I take the technique for granted if you join a club like Inter."
