Cristiano Ronaldo is widely expected to make his second debut for Manchester United at the first available opportunity after the international break. The Red Devils will host Newcastle United on September 11 in front of a 70,000-strong crowd, with the club’s supporters champing at the bit to see Ronaldo back in action at Old Trafford.

He signed a two-year contract with the option of a third on Tuesday, with Juventus accepting a bid in the region of £15million plus £7m in add-ons.

The move shook the football world to its core as United swooped to bring Ronaldo back to the club in dramatic fashion.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner initially looked set to join Manchester City, but the Premier League champions went on to withdraw their interest.

Ronaldo was contacted by the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Sir Alex Ferguson before he eventually decided to return to United for the next chapter of his incredible career.

He will be looking to make an immediate impact when the Red Devils take on Newcastle, who are yet to win in the Premier League this season.

The Magpies will be hard-pressed to subdue Ronaldo if he starts the match after conceding eight goals in their opening three games.

The Portuguese forward also boasts a formidable record against Steve Bruce’s side, with history suggesting that he could easily add to his tally next week.

Ronaldo managed six goals and five assists from nine starts against Newcastle during his first spell as a United player.

He has also never lost a game to the Tyneside club, with their only positive result coming in the form of a 2-2 draw back in January 2007.

It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will be able to work his magic upon his return to United as they go in search of a first Premier League title in eight years.

However, it seems as though he will have the perfect opportunity to make a flying start when Newcastle travel to Old Trafford after the international break.

Ronaldo will pick up the coveted No 7 shirt after Edinson Cavani decided to vacate his iconic number and switch to No 21.

The former Real Madrid man declared that he could not be happier to be back at United in his first official interview with the club earlier this week.

“I think it’s the best decision that I have made,” said Ronaldo.

“It’s right on point in my opinion. I moved from Juve now to Manchester, it’s a new chapter, I’m so happy and glad.

“I want to carry on again, to make history, to try to help Manchester achieve great results, to win trophies and number one of them, to win great things.”

Ronaldo also highlighted the role of Ferguson in convincing him to rejoin the club, with the forward admitting that he still idolises the former United boss.

“For me, Sir Alex Ferguson is like a father in football for me,” he added.

“He helped me a lot, he taught me many things, and in my opinion of course he had a big role because of the relationship that we had.

“We keep in touch all the time, and he’s an unbelievable person. I really like him a lot and he was the main key for me to be in the position that I am, that I signed for Manchester United.”
