AFTV’s turnover to increase to £1.8m as Arsenal fan channel continues huge rise

AFTV continues to go from strength to strength, with the channel's turnover set to rise to a remarkable £1.8million in 2023.

Formerly known as Arsenal Fan TV, the show has built a cult following over the last decade thanks to its raw, warts-and-all approach to covering fan debate among Gunners supporters. The channel has made minor celebrities of individuals including Ty, Troopz, and of course, the show's ringmaster, Robbie Lyle.

It counts the likes of Ian Wright, Matt Lucas and Jamie Carragher among its followers and continues to prove ever popular, some 10 years after it first entered the public consciousness.

Indeed, AFTV reached the milestone of 1billion views and 1.4million YouTube subscribers this year. According to the Evening Standard, the channel's turnover is £1.4million this year, forecast to jump to £1.8million in 2023.

That the show remains so popular, even as Arsenal improve on the pitch, is testament to the legion of fans it has built up over the last decade.

The once amateur operation has now encompasses three studios in Finsbury Park, demonstrating the incredible growth of the start-up. Lyle, the show's founder, revealed to the Evening Standard that the channel has never taken on outside investment and that all profit has been reinvested back into the business.

“Everything was self-financed at the start and it remains that way; we generate revenue through sponsorships and brand partnerships. All profit has been reinvested back into the business to cover equipment, travel and staff," he said.

However, Lyle is now considering taking on investment to get AFTV to the next level. "We want to launch channels in more countries and more cities — we recently went to Nigeria, as that’s where a small but significant proportion of our fans are, and we’ve got trips to Rwanda and Kenya lined up in September, too," he added.

"I’m considering investment now, just to take it to the next level, to help with international expansion — but we’d only accept help from the right people, who want to keep our channels fans-first."
