Aaron Ramsdale in awe over Arsenal player with hardest shot at the club – ‘wow’

Aaron Ramsdale has revealed who has the hardest shot at Arsenal, and surprisingly snubbed all the Gunners' forwards and attacking midfielders when making his pick.

The English goalkeeper instead highlighted left-back Nuno Tavares for praise, but joked that his ability to strike the ball can sometimes be effected by whether he's been given the runaround by Bukayo Saka in training beforehand.

The 24-year-old, who has kept 12 clean sheets for the Gunners in his debut campaign at the club, was asked about who carried the hardest shot in the training ground while filming for the F2 Freestylers. Ramsdale didn't hesitate before replying: "Tavares, wow!

"Right foot, left foot, four yards away or 20 yards away, he just whacks it – no mercy. He might have had a tough day against Bukayo or someone like that, so his head might have gone and he's just no mercy."

The selection will likely come as a surprise to many Arsenal fans, considering Tavares – admittedly a left-back – has only scored once in the Premier League this season. Tavares made the £8million move to the Emirates from Portuguese outfit Benfica last year. He has stepped up in the absence of injured Kieran Tierney, making 27 appearances in all competitions while providing two assists.

Despite Ramsdale's praise, it seems not everyone is a fan of the Portugal under-21 international. Tavares made a horrific mistake in Monday night's defeat against Newcastle, as he performed a foul throw leading to Newcastle's opener. And Ian Wright didn't hold back in his criticism afterwards.

HAVE YOUR SAY! What have you made of Nuno Tavares' time at Arsenal so far? Have your say in the comment section below…

He told Premier League Productions: "When you look at the first goal it was our throw on. ‘We’re going for top four and we’ve got players taking foul throws! It’s a foul throw! You think to yourself, “What are you doing?”

"Off the back of that once it gets out to Cedric you can’t let Saint Maximin get outside of you so easily, cut the line off, show him inside but bang they’re straight into us. It’s a great cross but at the same time that could easily have been avoided.

When you’re going for fourth you’ve got to be more resolute than that, you can’t make mistakes like that. Yes it’s an own goal but we’ve been the architects of our own downfall it’s terrible play."
