Gallagher Premiership final will be shown on ITV as rugby’s top division strikes new deal with the broadcaster to show four live matches and a weekly highlights programme this season

The Gallagher Premiership final will be shown on free-to-air television for the first time this season after English rugby’s top division struck a fresh broadcast deal with ITV.

Four live Premiership matches, the competition’s final on June 18, and a weekly highlights programme will be all be shown on ITV, beginning with Sale hosting Leicester on January 30.

ITV’s first highlights show will be broadcast later that evening. For the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, the channel will have seven live games which also includes the final.

Premiership action was last on a free-to-air channel in 2020-21 when Channel 5 had the rights.

All Premiership matches shown by ITV will also be broadcast by the league’s principal partner BT Sport.

Premiership chief executive Simon Massie-Taylor said: ‘The return of Gallagher Premiership Rugby to terrestrial TV is the perfect way for us to kick off 2022.
