Niners to pack punch for Green Bay

IT is heating up on the gridiron with the NFL play-offs looming large, and on Monday morning we may get a preview of the NFC Championship game.

San Francisco have exceeded expectations this season and sit on top of the conference with a 9-1 record – their best start to a campaign since 1990 when the likes of legends Joe Montana and Jerry Rice where running around with the Super Bowl magnet 49ers.

The Green Bay Packers and their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers have not looked as convincing as the 49ers but turn for home with an 8-2 record to share second spot with New Orleans.

The 49ers only loss on the season was two weeks ago against division rivals, Seattle, in an overtime classic which might well be the wildest game of the year to date.

The Niners deserve to be the top seed at present and deserve to be the favourite in this match, but they have looked beatable in their past few matches, and a Packers side refreshed from the bye should be a concern.

Outsiders Green Bay are worth a bet.

Week 11 seems one to play small at good odds.

Denver take on Buffalo after pushing a quality Minnesota team all the way last week.

Questions remain about how good this Buffalo team is and, with a quarterback who has a tendency to freeze in big moments, the Broncos defence could cause him headaches.

The Lions and Raiders are deserved favourites against poor opposition (Redskins and Jets). and both should comfortably get the job done.

A-LEAGUE

THE highlight of the weekend in the A-League is the grand final rematch between the Perth Glory and Sydney FC, and there is nothing between the two sides in betting with Ladbrokes.

Sydney FC are narrow favourites at $2.50, with the Glory at $2.55.

Winning in Perth has not been an issue for Sydney, and they have saluted in 11 of their past 12 matches against the Glory – if you include their penalty shootout victory in the 2018-2019 A-League grand final.

Adelaide United are the form team in the A-League and they have been well-supported to continue their winning ways against the Melbourne Victory this weekend.

The Reds have scored fighting wins over the Newcastle Jets, Brisbane Roar and the Central Coast Mariners and recent history suggests that they should account for the struggling Melbourne Victory.

The home side has won the past five matches played between these sides, and Adelaide United have won seven of their past 13 games as home favourites for a profit.

EPL

CHELSEA may have won six matches on the rot to be above Manchester City on the English Premier League ladder but the Ladbrokes market suggests that it will be fairly smooth sailing for City when the two sides clash on Monday morning.

Manchester City are $1.40 favourite to return to winning form, while Chelsea are now out to $7 to beat their rivals.

City have won 15 of their past 18 matches as home favourites and Chelsea have failed to win any of their past four matches as away underdogs.

Recent history also suggests that a draw ($4.75) is unlikely.

There has been a result in the past eight Premier League games played between the two sides, and they have not played out a draw in the competition since 2015.

Sheffield United have been one of the revelations in the EPL this season and they have a good chance to inflict more pain on Manchester United.

Taking on Manchester United has been a profitable play all season, and they have won only six of their past 15 games as away favourites for a big loss.

Sheffield United have not lost in the EPL since they went down to Liverpool in September, and they are well and truly over the odds at their current price of $3.40.

NBL

THE Brisbane Bullets and the Adelaide 36ers will be in action twice over the weekend and it is a crucial period for both sides who have win-losses record of 4-5.

A pair of losses from either could see them finish the weekend a couple of games outside the top four.

They meet on Friday in Brisbane, and the Bullets are favourites with Ladbrokes at $1.60, but recent history suggests that the 36ers appeal at their current odds of $2.35.

Winning on the road is not an issue for the 36ers, who have won eight of their past 14 games away from home for a clear profit.

The Bullets then face a tough trip to Victoria for a clash with Melbourne United on Sunday and they can take some confidence from their strong recent record against their rivals.

Brisbane have won the past three games played between the two sides, and they are $3.50 to make it four-straight on Sunday.

Adelaide will be in action again on Sunday when they host the New Zealand Breakers, and they will go into this clash as clear favourites.

The Breakers have won only three of their past 14 games on the road, but the 36ers have been an inconsistent 4-4 as home favourites and they may be slightly under the odds at $1.53.

BEST BETS

Racing – The Velvet King to win The Railway Stakes @ $6.50

The Velvet King beat Achernar Star to win the Northerly Stakes at Ascot a couple of starts ago before he finished a close third in the Lee Steere Stakes. He meets his rivals much better at the weights in the Railway Stakes and he does look like the horse that is weighted to win this contest.

NBL – Adelaide 36ers to beat Brisbane Bullets @ $2.35

The Brisbane Bullets have lost two games on the trot and they face another tough assignment against the Adelaide 36ers tonight. Adelaide have won six of their past 11 games as away underdogs for a clear profit, and the away side has won three of the past four games between the two sides.

NFL – New England Patriots to cover the line (-6 Points) against Dallas Cowboys @ $1.88

The New England Patriots returned to winning form against the Philadelphia Eagles, and they should prove too strong for the Dallas Cowboys. The Patriots have won their past eight matches as home favourites and they are 6-2 against the line in this scenario, while the Cowboys are 1-2 as away underdogs.

A-League – Wellington Phoenix to beat Brisbane Roar @ $2.45

It has been a very poor start to the A-League season for the Wellington Phoenix and they may never have a better chance to return to winning form. The Phoenix have won their past five matches as home favourites and they face a Brisbane Roar outfit that has scored only one win from their past 15 matches on the road.
