NASCAR at Chicago: Live race updates, results, highlights from Camping World 400
Traditional racing fans, rejoice, as NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series is back to left-turns-only following a week on the West Coast at Sonoma Raceway’s road course. The 17th race of the season heads to Chicagoland Speedway’s cookie-cutter track for the Camping World 400.
The 1.5-mile oval track had a reputation for creating boring and blasé finishes until last year’s thrilling and collision-filled finish between Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson gave the Joliet, Ill., track some excitement. Busch won the duel last year, so it’s no surprise that he’s once again one of the favorites as he sits in second place of the Cup Series standings with 15 top-10 finishes.
Martin Truex Jr. is another driver to watch, following his win last week in the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Truex held off a closing Busch in the final laps to record his fourth victory of the season – tied with Busch for the most – and what’s even more impressive is that the four wins have come in the last eight races. Truex has finished in the top-five in three straight races at Chicagoland, including wins in 2016 and ’17.
Brad Keselowski leads all drivers with eight consecutive top-10 finishes at Chicagoland and is seeking his fourth win of the season. His Team Penske teammate Joey Logano is first in the Cup Series standings and has finished no worse than eighth in each of the last five races here.
Weather may become an issue in the later portion of the race as the chance of thunderstorms increases around the 4 p.m. E.T. hour. Chicagoland Raceway does have lights.
Sporting News is tracking live lap-by-lap updates and highlights from the Camping World 400.
