Verstappen heard groaning "ah f***" in new audio of horror crash with Hamilton

New audio has revealed the conversation between Max Verstappen and the Red Bull garage in the seconds after he crashed at Silverstone on Sunday.

The world championship leader started the British Grand Prix on pole but before the end of the opening lap found himself retiring from the race after hitting the barriers at 180 MPH.

A collision with Mercedes man Lewis Hamilton caused the incident, with Verstappen incensed after the Brit went on to win his home grand prix.

But the young Dutchman had less to say in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

In audio released on Sunday evening, a member of the Red Bull team asks: "Max, are you okay?" – just seconds after he hits the tyre barrier in front of horrified fans.

After the audio cuts out, Verstappen can be heard grunting before he shouts: "Argh, f***!"

The Red Bull driver was taken to hospital as a precaution after the incident but escaped with no major injuries.

Speaking after his release, he tweeted: "Glad I’m ok. Very disappointed with being taken out like this

"The penalty given does not help us and doesn’t do justice to the dangerous move Lewis made on track.

"Watching the celebrations while still in hospital is disrespectful and unsportsmanlike behaviour but we move on."

And speaking to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Verstappen's dad said: “It's really not acceptable what he [Hamilton] did.

“I think a 10 second penalty is really ridiculous. As far as I am concerned they should have just disqualified him.

“Max gives him space and is just in front of him. You can't overtake on the inside."

Hamilton's 10-second time penalty wasn't enough to stop him winning the race, closing the gap in the drivers' championship to just eight points.

Speaking after the race, the world champion defended his actions in the Verstappen incident.

The pair will do battle in Budapest next time out.
