Martin Brundle walked past Paddy Pimblett to renew ‘bromance’ with Stormzy

Martin Brundle spoke to stars of film, music, sport and food during his customary grid walk ahead of the British Grand Prix.

Brundle’s pre-race wanders down the grid have become the stuff of F1 legend, not least for his sometimes awkward exchanges with celebrities. The Silverstone grid was littered with A-listers, with Brundle catching a word with many of them.

The Sky Sports commentator and pundit spoke to actor Damien Lewis, Liverpool footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold and chef Gordon Ramsey, among others. He even had a brief exchange with Top Gun star Tom Cruise, who was celebrating his 60th birthday.

Brundle didn’t have time for everyone though. Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries was hilariously overlooked, with Brundle admitting after the race that he didn’t know who she was. As Dorries handed out the trophies on the podium, Brundle said: “Is that the lady I saw on the grid, Nadine? Yes, I didn’t know who she was and I wish I had done.”

He also missed the opportunity to interview UFC star Paddy Pimblett, who was spotted on camera after Brundle had spoken to Aston Martin chief Lawrence Stroll. It’s unclear whether he knew who ‘Paddy the Baddy’ was.

But at that point, Brundle only had eyes for one man, rapper Stormzy, with the pair greeting it each like long-lost friends having spoken on the grid ahead of last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. After exchanging pleasantries, Stormzy told Brundle he was rooting for Mercedes pair Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
