George Russell has spoken of his delight after placing third during what was a hectic Russian Grand Prix qualifying. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz took first and second respectively as Lewis Hamilton spun and nudged the wall on his final lap.

This F1 season just keeps on giving, with yet more surprise names near the top, with Norris looking to seal McLaren’s second straight F1 race win following their triumph at the Italian Grand Prix last time out through Daniel Ricciardo.

But Sainz and Russell will have other ideas, while Hamilton will be desperate to bounce back after a disastrous qualifying from fourth spot following his pit-lane crash.

For Russell however, his third-place finish during qualifying in Sochi represents a fantastic few weekends of racing for him, which also ties in with his mega move to Mercedes where he will partner Lewis Hamilton next season.
