Buccaneers’ Leonard Fournette rips grown-man rush TD in NFC championship game vs. Packers

A Fournette pirouette puts the Bucs back on top.

Leonard Fournette was an underrated addition to the Tampa Bay backfield this past offseason after the former first-round pick spent just three seasons with the Jaguars to start his NFL career. Fournette displayed a little of what made him a premium pick with an impressive TD run against the Packers in Sunday’s NFC championship game.

You can file this one under “Grown Man Touchdown.” A hurdle over a defender, a spin move, a broken tackle — and a little bit of luck — made for an early highlight in a battle of NFC powers.

Fournette’s spin is typically something that only works in “Madden,” and the deeper numbers suggest that there’s no way Fournette should have scored on this play, with a 0.4 percent TD probably from ESPN’s Next Gen Stats.

The score put the Buccaneers back on top, 14-7, in the second quarter, a period the Packers have dominated throughout the 2020 season. With a touchdown in the frame Sunday, the Packers have scored 242 points in the second quarter this season, the most of any team in any quarter in NFL history.

But if Fournette can put together a clutch performance, maybe the Pack stops here.
