Douglas Silva de Andrade pocketed a $50,000 (£36,900) Performance of the Night bonus after the Brazilian’s laser accuracy saw him knock out Gaetano Pirrello while the Belgian was in mid air at UFC Vegas 38.

Andrade, 36, entered his Sin City contest in need of a response after losing to Britain’s Lerone Murphy last time out, while Pirrello also suffered defeat on his UFC debut against Ricky Simon last January.

And the Brazilian knockout artist got back on track in thunderous style, ending the bout inside the first round with a spectacular finish that saw him handsomely rewarded with a bonus.

As Pirrello came forward with a kick to Andrade’s midriff, the 36-year-old caught his Belgian rival while mid air, landing a crunching left hook that floored the 29-year-old.

Delighted with his stunning victory, Andrade flipped off the cage twice while medics attended to the stricken Pirrello.

‘I am feeling really good,’ the bantamweight said after his victory. ‘It is wonderful to be back, I just want to be thankful.

‘If I could, I would be back there [in the Octagon] in two hours. My team was talking with Dana [White] and they were talking about fighting again in January.’

Elsewhere, Kevin Holland’s bout with Kyle Daukaus was ruled a no contest after an accidental clash of heads significantly swayed the contest in Daukaus’ favour.

In the main event, Thiago Santos earned a unanimous decision victory over Johnny Walker over five rounds that failed to set alight in Vegas.
