Conor McGregor admits to landing illegal shots against Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor has admitted to kneeing Khabib Nurmagomedov in his eyeball in a bid to regain his lightweight belt.

The Irishman was choked out in the fourth round of his title fight against his bitter rival two years ago.

Earlier this week McGregor claimed he was winning the fight before he tapped out to a rear-naked choke.

And now he has taken to social media to analyse his use of knees in the fight – one of which crossed the boundary.

"The knee into the eye socket was illegal yes, from this position, a beauty though," wrote McGregor. "[A] never before seen shot, like many of my shots.

"I use the mount defence leg as a spring board, loading the knee below it, release and straight to the eye socket. Smashed it in!

"This strike should not be illegal, [it] should actually be enshrined! Look at him cower his head after it and keep it tucked, kept honest!

"[The] guy is latched onto my arm not letting go. Everything bar biting and gouging should be permitted here, are we fighting or what are we doing here?"

McGregor has fought just once since losing to Nurmagomedov, stopping Donald Cerrone inside 40 second earlier this year.

He has now agreed to a rematch with Dustin Poirier with the rivals due to clash on January 23.

The winner of the fight will likely earn himself a shot at either Nurmagomedov or Justin Gaethje who clash this weekend for the lightweight belt.

And McGregor will be forced to fight at 155lb after UFC president Dana White dismissed his request for the fight to take place at welterweight.
