Kevin Pillar injury update: Mets OF suffered ‘multiple nasal fractures’ from fastball to face

Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar has been diagnosed with “multiple nasal fractures” after a 94 mph fastball struck him in face Monday night, the team announced Tuesday morning.

While Pillar exited the field under his own power, the pitch from Braves pitcher Jacob Webb left him bloodied and many were concerned about his health. After the game, Pillar tweeted that he was doing OK, though the Mets said Tuesday that he will be meeting with a facial specialist “to determine the next steps” in his recovery.

For now, Pillar is just listed as day-to-day, but it’s probable that he will miss some time. If he is placed on the IL, he’ll become the fourth Mets outfielder to land there since Brandon Nimmo (finger) joined the list on May 5. Michael Conforto (hamstring) and Albert Almora Jr. (shoulder) also were rendered inactive during the past week.

With the Mets shorthanded in the outfield, Johneshwy Fargas, who started Monday night in center field, and Khalil Lee, who entered the game after Pillar’s injury, may see more playing time.

Even despite their recent injury issues, the Mets are holding onto first place in the NL East and have posted a 7-3 record in their past 10 games. They’ll hope to continue their strong stretch even if Pillar misses time.
