Eddie Betts, we simply are not worthy of your wizardry

Eddie Betts, we are not worthy.

The footy legend reached into his bag of tricks again on Sunday afternoon to kick a miracle goal for the Blues against the Swans.

The 34-year-old has one of the greatest highlight reels in the history of the sport – and he added another clip on Sunday when he kicked a freakish one-handed goal on the run from the boundary, deep in the pocket.

His goal was a masterpiece of freakish talent.

Betts was running onto a loose ball near the boundary before cleanly scooping the Sherrin up with his right hand and throwing it down onto his right boot for a snap that sailed straight through the big posts from an impossible angle.

Betts’ latest highlight was another celebration of the league’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

The proud Wirangu/Kokatha/Guburn man helped promote Carlton’s Indigenous jumper for the game earlier this week.

At the other end, Lance Franklin was putting on a clinic with three first half goals as the Swans came back from three goals down in the first quarter to have the game right in the balance at half time.

The only blemesh on Franklin’s impressive performance was a moment he tried to push his opponent under the ball and ended up getting smacked in the back of the head by the Sherrin as he turned to goal.

He has been proving doubters wrong all year after there was criticism at the start of the season surrounding Carlton’s decision to hand him a one-year contract extension.

Those critics are keeping silent right now after seeing some of his wizardry this season.

He kicked five goals, including a freakish no-hands goal, during the Blues’ loss to the Bulldogs three weeks ago.
