Oscar De La Hoya offers Mayweather a ‘f****** real fight’ after Logan Paul bout

Oscar De La Hoya has offered long-time rival Floyd Mayweather a “f*****g real fight,” with the Golden Boy reportedly keen on facing his former opponent after his comeback fight, currently slated for September.

De La Hoya, now 48-years-old, is returning to the boxing ring later this year. While it is not yet clear whether the Mexican will be competing professionally or in an exhibition bout, he is reportedly taking his comeback fight seriously and hopes to box several more times in the next few years.

Per talkSPORT’s Michael Benson, De La Hoya said "Let me get like two fights in and then I can f***ing call out Mayweather, you watch – in a f***ing real fight."

De La Hoya and Mayweather faced off back in 2007, in what would be the latter’s first fight to do over a million pay-per-view buys and somewhat of a coming out party for the American. Mayweather would win the bout via split decision, with the fight likely more one-sided than the scorecards show.

The Golden Boy would go one to fight twice more in his professional career, defeating Steve Forbes via unanimous decision and losing via stoppage to Manny Pacquiao.

It was only the second time De La Hoya had been finished in his professional career and he would retire shortly after.

While the date of his comeback fight is fast approaching, De La Hoya is yet to announce who is opponent will be. Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre was approached to face De La Hoya and was rumoured to be incredibly interested in the fight.

However, while the Canadian has been retired for 4 years, he remains under contract with the UFC, meaning Dana White was able to block negotiations from taking place.

It remains unclear why the UFC head honcho would elect to block what would’ve undoubtedly been the largest payday of GSP’s career. It likely has something to do with his long-time rivalry with fellow fight promoter De La Hoya, with White regularly mocking the 11x world champion’s past issues with substance abuse.
