Mayweather’s coach ‘very optimistic’ he will put ‘flawless’ pro record on line

Floyd Mayweather's current coach is 'very optimistic' that the star will one day put his perfect 50-0 professional record on the line.

Mayweather, 44, has never been shy of returning from retirement, first announcing he was stepping away from the sport after dismantling Ricky Hatton in December 2007.

Within 18 months he was back however, and his unbeaten run stood at 49 when he quit a second time, after comfortably beating Mexican Andre Berto.

A lucrative showdown with UFC star Conor McGregor lured him back again though, and after stopping 'The Notorious' in August 2017 – the star famously said "This was my last fight. Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, for sure I chose the right dance partner to dance with."

Whilst that comment may still ring true at professional level, 'The Money Man' was back in the ring for a three-round exhibition bout with kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, and then in December 2020 took on YouTube star Logan Paul.

The latter bout went the eight-round distance, but was deemed farcical in many quarters with Mayweather appearing to go easy on his rookie opponent to prolong the show.

The American then pledged not to do any more exhibition bouts, but has again regressed and is now set to take on Dubai's Instagram sensation Money Kicks in February – which will take place, not in a squared circle, but on a helipad.

It was Gerald Tucker who trained Mayweather for his clash with Paul, and he's now sensationally suggested the star will soon be back for pro-fight number 51.

“I think he’s going to fight a couple of times every year," Tucker is quoted as saying in The Sun.

“It’s great money and there’s people like me, huge fans of Floyd’s style that want to see him in the ring just displaying his skills, that are unmatched in the history of the sport.

“I think he’ll do that just for people like me. But, I’m also optimistic we may see Floyd fight one day."

Tucker insisted his words weren't revealing any secrets, but he said Mayweather remained in great conditions and was dominating his sparring partners.

"So yeah, I’m very optimistic we’ll see him in the ring one more time and put his unbeaten, flawless record on the line.”
