Kubrat Pulev batters MMA fighter in KO compared to "attempted murder"

Fans were left terrified as Kubrat Pulev knocked out Frank Mir on his feet while the referee failed to stop the bout immediately.

So shocking was the knockout, and subsequent lack of action, one Twitter user compared the bout to "attempted murder".

Pulev caught Mir with a wicked right-hook that left Mir with his eyes glazed over and unsteady on his feet.

However, after the referee didn't take any action Mir was then hit with a second hook that sent him stumbling into the corner.

Dan Miragliotta, the referee, then mercifully called the bout off as the commentator shouted: "He's out on his feet! What is Miragliotta doing? He's out on his feet! This one's over!"

In December 2020, Pulev stepped into the squared circle to challenge Anthony Joshua for the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO World Champions.

At that point, Pulev's record stood at 28-1, with 14 KOs.

Joshua was able to defeat the Cobra in the ninth, where Pulev was knocked down for the third time under a barrage of uppercuts.

But it was a right hook moments later that secured the win.

Pulev and Mir's bout took place at the Triller's Triad Combat event, which pitted mixed martial arts fighters against boxers over a night of fighting.

The idea was to put professional boxers against professional MMA fighters in an environment that “levels the playing field.”
