Hughie Fury reveals why Kubrat Pulev cannot shock him in heavyweight clash

It seems a long time ago now since we landed in Sofia last Saturday. It’s been pretty full on week with different events happening every day. Being in Bulgaria though means one thing, that fight week is finally here and I can’t wait. The talking is over and it’s about business now and going in there and getting the job done.

I’m here for one thing and that’s to get my hand raised. Believe me there is no better feeling. You put all the hard work in during the camp and then everything you have put in, comes to fruition and you get your reward. Getting your hand raised after months of training the gym is what it’s all about. It’s an amazing feeling and that’s what I picture in my head happening on Saturday night. I’m 100 % confident.

Since we arrived here on Saturday, we’ve had such a warm and friendly welcome from the people of Sofia. They’re genuinely excited about the fight on Saturday. I know the majority of the fans out here will be supporting Pulev but that doesn’t faze me. I’m just going to do my thing and showing them what I’m all about.

I’ve been training every day in the gym, just keeping myself agile and fresh ahead of Saturday night. For me it’s important to just keep things ticking over and to make sure that I feel good.

On Monday we headed to Plovdiv and took in some of the sights. What a fantastic place with lots of history. It’s nice to switch off and get out and see some of the country but my focus is on 100% the fight.

On Tuesday I came face to face with Pulev for the first time in at the open workout. It was at the Serdika Shopping Mall in Sofia. I watched him in action and I don’t see anything to be worried about. I’ve done my preparation and I’ve got Plans A through to Z ready for whatever he comes at me with.

There was a great atmosphere with a large crowd watching us spar but I know that will only be a fraction of the atmosphere come Saturday night. It was a pleasure to be here in front of so many fans and I’m genuinely excited about putting on a show for them.

Then on Wednesday, we had the final press conference which took place at the hotel. We came face to face properly this time, but it’s been respectful since the moment the fight was announced and it wasn’t any different. He is here to perform in front of his home fans and I’m here to cause an upset.

I only see this fight going one way. I’ve come over here to win. I’m prepared for whatever he [Pulev] throws at me, and if I have to go the distance to do that so be it. Believe me when I say it’s going to be one hell of a fight.

You might have seen some pictures of me on social media looking like William Wallace from Braveheart. As mentioned in my previous Mirror Sport column I’m walking to the ring to the film’s title music, so this is just a little bit of fun ahead of the fight.

Friday was the final piece of the fight week puzzle at the official weigh in. The next time we see each other will be in the ring and believe me I will be ready to show him and the rest of the contenders in the heavyweight division that Hughie Fury means business. I want to be the best in the world.

Now that the fight is only one day away now, you can feel the excitement building here in Bulgaria. I’m sure it will be a packed-out arena, with lots of British fans in attendance as well as fans watching at home and I promise it will be a night they never forget.

Watch Pulev vs. Fury live on free to air Channel 5 from 9pm on Saturday, October 27th.
