Fury tells Ngannou to 'come see the Gypsy King' for some 'real money'

Tyson Fury tells Francis Ngannou to ‘come see the Gypsy King’ for some ‘real money’ as the Cameroonian MMA star weighs-up boxing switch after final fight with UFC

  • Francis Ngannou retained his UFC heavyweight title with victory over Ciryl Gane
  • The victory marks the end of the 35-year-old’s contract with the UFC promotion
  • The UFC are notorious for under-paying fighters and Ngannou wants a pay-day
  • Boxing’s heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has called out the MMA king

Five years after Floyd Mayweather’s ‘Money Fight’ against Conor McGregor, Tyson Fury has tempted Francis Ngannou with a monstrous heavyweight showdown.

Ngannou walked away from the UFC victorious after a points win over Ciryl Gane, bringing his deal with Dana White’s promotion to an end with the American’s businessman’s heavyweight title around his waist.

Now it’s time for the 35-year-old to seek a pay-day, telling Joe Rogan post-fight: ‘As I always say, boxing is always in the back of my pocket. It’s something that I must do before the end of my career.’

Tyson Fury is keen of a mega-fight against Francis Ngannou, the UFC heavyweight champion

Ngannou defended his title on Saturday and becomes a free agent, now looking at boxing

Though Ngannou shocked fight fights by turning to his grappling skill over those ferocious fists to beat Gane, the Cameroonian is hungry for the ring and he could start with boxing’s very best.

Tyson Fury, the Gypsy King, wrote on Twitter: ‘Congratulations @francis_ngannou but if you want to make some real money come see the GK.’

Ngannou scooped just £600,000 as payment for his title defence, his 20th fight in the UFC. The heavyweight has already stated he won’t fight for such purses again.

When Fury is earning a reported £22million for knocking-out Deontay Wilder in the third and final fight of their historic rivalry, Ngannou’s position is understandable.

Ngannou’s pay in the UFC come nowhere near to the kind of money Fury is earning in the ring

The mega-fight between Mayweather and McGregor could also be an inspiration. The American icon fought for 50-0 against ‘the Notorious’ on his boxing debut – the Irishman at his outrageous, lethal, unpredictable best.

McGregor pocketed around £100m for that fight, with ‘Money’ Mayweather bagging a massive £206m purse.

Fury might be favourite to beat the MMA champion, just like Mayweather did, but Ngannou’s manager has fired a warning to the Gypsy King.

Marquel Martin told Sky Sports: ‘Francis is dangerous for Fury because the best fighter to fight Fury to date is Deontay Wilder. Deontay isn’t known for ‘sweet science’ – he’s known for his devastating power.

‘With that power, he was able to successfully land some (very hard to do) power shots that put Tyson on the canvas a few times.

‘I acknowledge it’s very difficult to hit Tyson. However, if Francis was to put together six to 12 months on strictly boxing, I’m confident Francis can learn the mechanics and timing he’d need to land some power shots.

‘Now, I have all the respect in the world for Tyson, but Francis hits way harder than Deontay.’
