Floyd Mayweather forgets opponent’s name as he prepares for next exhibition bout

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather forgot his opponent's name ahead of his latest exhibition bout this weekend. Mayweather is taking on Mikuru Asakura, but 'Money' revealed he does not even know the name of the Japanese MMA star.

The American fighter addressed the media ahead of his fight at the Super Saitama Arena, and totally disregarded the man he is facing off with. Mayweather said: "I have never seen my opponent compete as an MMA fighter, I have never seen him compete as a boxer.

"I don't know his weight class. I don't even know his name, and I don't even know the rules." The fight with Asakura is the American's latest exhibition bout since retiring in 2017.

Mayweather has already taken on YouTube star Logan Paul and former sparring partner Don Moore in non-competitive fights since hanging up his gloves with a 50-0 professional record. Discussing his move to exhibition fighting, the 45-year-old described the bouts as a 'joke' and 'easy'.

He commented: "When I am doing these exhibitions my opponents, they take it seriously. For me it is just a joke. It is just like waking up out of bed and making breakfast, it is extremely easy… Most of the time like last night I was partying.

"I am always enjoying myself. Smiling, enjoying life because this [exhibition fights] is easy to me." Once again showing disregard for his opponent, Mayweather also questioned whether Asakura was 'in his twenties' before being corrected that he was in fact 30.

Comparing his stature in sport to his opponents, he went on: "When I was 30 I was the richest athlete in the world. When I was 40 I was the richest athlete in the world."

With the American clearly not taking his Japanese opponent seriously, he has already set his eyes on a rematch with UFC Conor McGregor, after the pair fought in the Mayweather's final professional bout five years ago. Despite McGregor seemingly snubbing the idea, the 45-year-old told TMZ: "I’m not going to really get in the ring anymore.

"I had a great career for over 20 years fighting the best fighters I can possibly fight .I’ve done great numbers. Now I’m just doing exhibitions. It’s still very, very lucrative.

"I’m enjoying myself. Hopefully me and Conor McGregor can lock up in 2023 in a real fight. If the price is right, of course, they already talked to me about the number that I'm going to receive, and of course, it’s nine figures."
