WWE SmackDown PREVIEW: Kofi Kingston injured, dream match announced, Extreme Rules update

Kofi Kingston injured

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston was ruled out of action during last Monday’s non-televised live event due to an undisclosed injury.

Kingston’s title match with Samoa Joe, however, still stands for this Sunday at Extreme Rules.

The Dreadlocked Dynamo is still expected to make an appearance tonight to continue his feud with Joe.

Kevin Owens vs Dolph Ziggler

Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler were forced to partner up last week by Shane McMahon for a match against Otis and Tucker of Heavy Machinery.

The two teams faced off in a match that would see the victors being added to the SmackDown Tag Team Championship clash at Extreme Rules against Big E and Xavier Woods of The New Day as well as title-holders Daniel Bryan and Rowan.

Owens and Ziggler lost the fight and things got heated after the bell as KO flattened The Showoff with a Stunner.

As a result of last week’s incident the two former world champions are expected to face off tonight.

Finn Balor vs Shinsuke Nakamura

SmackDown viewers are in for a special treat as they will see Shinsuke Nakamura battling Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor in what seems to be a non-title match.

Nakamura appeared to have thrown down the gauntlet two weeks ago and the Intercontinental Championship is now in his sights.

If The King of Strong Style picks up the victory tonight then he will be on course for a title match with Extreme Rules just around the corner.

Aleister Black reveal

Aleister Black has issued an open challenge for any SmackDown superstar to face him at Extreme Rules.

Two weeks ago an unnamed wrestler answered the call and will battle Black at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The mystery opponent will be revealed tonight, while rumours suggest it could be Cesaro or Randy Orton.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship summit

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan and Rowan will battle Big E and Xavier Woods as well as Heavy Machinery at Extreme Rules.

However, before the Triple Threat Match the three teams will first share the ring for a confrontation that could come to blows.

Which tag team will be left standing?

Nikki Cross vs Carmella

Nikki Cross has been added to the SmackDown Women’s title picture ahead of Extreme Rules.

Cross will team up with Alexa Bliss and will take on titleholder Bayley in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match.

However, The Twisted Sister will first have to overcome Carmella in a Singles Match tonight.
