Great Britain’s Harriet Dart reached the main draw of the US Open for the first time after beating Wang Xiyu in the final qualifying round.

The 23-year-old Londoner took the British contingent at Flushing Meadows to five after battling to a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory over China’s Wang.

Dart, playing in her third qualifying match, secured two early breaks of serve, and fended off eight break points, to take the opening set.

However, the Dart serve was broken three times in the second as Wang levelled the match.

World No 140 Dart, who is set to earn a minimum £49,000 for reaching the main draw, faced break points early in the decider but held before grabbing a decisive break for 4-3.

Dart joins British No 1 Johanna Konta in the women’s singles, while Kyle Edmund, Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans are in the men’s draw.
