Cristiano Ronaldo: Juventus star’s agent Jorge Mendes makes Jose Mourinho Real Madrid vow
Cristiano Ronaldo played under Mourinho for three years at Real Madrid earlier in his career, winning the La Liga and Copa del Rey titles along the way.
The Juventus star’s relationship with his compatriot faded towards their time at the Bernabeu, however, with Mourinho leaving in 2013 with few dressing room allies by his side.
Talk is now rife that Ronaldo and Mourinho will be reunited at Juventus in the wake of Massimiliano Allegri’s decision to walk away.
It was claimed on Monday that Ronaldo had suggested the name of his former Real boss as the Old Lady step up their plans to land an Allegri replacement.
However, Italian newspaper Il Bianconero claims that Ronaldo is not too keen on the idea.
Mendes has supposedly told Juventus chief Andrea Agnelli that the duo would have to repair their relationship to work together again.
He has vowed to protect Ronaldo by making Mourinho the peace-maker in any possible talks.
It shall be the 56-year-old’s responsible to heal old wounds should Juventus choose him.
Mourinho is not a popular figure in Turin having spent two years at the club’s fierce rivals, Inter Milan.
He also goaded Juventus fans after beating the Old Lady 2-1 when he was Manchester United boss back in November.
Il Bianconero say Ronaldo and Mourinho reuniting over in Turin is not out of the question.
But it appears Mendes’ intervention must see Mourinho backtrack if they are to team up again.
Meanwhile, back in 2013, the former United and Real manager opened up on his relationship with Ronaldo.
And he said he had just ONE issue with the Portugal international.
“I had only one problem with him, very simple, very basic, which was when a coach criticises a player from a tactical viewpoint trying to improve what, in my view, could have been improved,” he said.
“At that moment, he didn’t take it very well because maybe he thinks he knows everything and the coach cannot help him develop further.”
Who Juventus choose remains to be seen.
Express Sport understands they have an interest in Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino, while Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is also in their sights.
