Jessica Mendoza misses ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ after ‘scary’ weekend car wreck

ESPN “Sunday Night Baseball” analyst Jessica Mendoza missed calling the Phillies-Giants game in San Francisco after escaping serious injury Friday in a high-speed highway accident.

Mendoza, 38, was rear-ended at full speed on a Southern California freeway, USA Today reported, in an incident ESPN communications director Ben Cafardo described as a “scary ordeal.”

“Ever a champ, she made every effort to be in booth tonight,” Cafardo tweeted Sunday, “but the much better decision was to rest and recover with her family.”

Mendoza, who has been with ESPN since 2007 and is in her fourth year as part of the “Sunday Night Baseball” crew, is recovering at home.
